In simple terms, cooling towers are devices in which heat energy is removed from one medium (from  process fluid-usually water) to other medium (to air- atmosphere) primarily through evaporation of water in counter current flow mode. This results in trapping of air borne impurities in water along with concentration of already existing impurities in the recirculating cooling tower water. These impurities in the recirculating water have a tendency to deposit, corrode & foul the system especially in high heat areas such as heat exchangers.

In order to keep the system clean & efficient, a chemical treatment of water is thus essential to ensure that the system’s heat transfer surfaces remain free from the ill-effects of deposition, corrosion or biological fouling. WT-CT 201 – Corrosion & Scale Inhibitor

Description:  WT-CT 201 is designed to control internal corrosion of the heat exchangers, pipes and the cooling towers  running with high hardness, high temperatures which causes stressed conditions.

Composition: It contains a PMA crystal modifier, PBTC & HEDP phosphonates, HPA corrosion inhibitor, Terpolymer and Aromatic Azoles.

Applications: WT-CT 201 is specially formulated to inhibit the deposition of hard water scale and corrosion products in heat exchangers, piping and sump areas of multi-metal open recirculating water systems where make up water has high hardness & high alkalinity or high temperature return water. It is fully compatible for use in conjunction with a micro biocide program to ensure complete protection of the system. It is quite safe & economical to use even in large towers which have high daily makeup water usages. Also it does not contain pollution causing chemicals such as Zinc, Chromate, Molybdate.

Control Limit: Maintain 5 to 15 ppm of Organo-phosphonate level.

WT-CT 202 – Corrosion & Scale Inhibitor

Description:  WT-CT 202 is designed to control internal corrosion of the heat exchangers, pipes and the cooling towers running with high hardness, high temperatures which causes stressed conditions.

Composition: contains Versaflex One, PBTC & HEDP phosphonates, Terpolymer and Aromatic Azoles, with a Molybdate tracer.

WT-CT 205 – Corrosion & Scale Inhibitor

Description:  WT-CT 205 is designed without moly tracer to control internal corrosion of the heat exchangers, pipes and the cooling towers  running with high corrosion tendencies.

Composition: Contains Versaflex One, PBTC & HEDP phosphonates,  HPA & POCA corrosion inhibitors, Terpolymer and Azole.

Applications: WT-CT 205 is specially formulated to inhibit the deposition of hard water scale and corrosion products in heat exchangers, piping and sump areas of multi-metal open recirculating water systems  where  water has high corrosive tendencies. Tablets WT-CT 206 – Corrosion & Scale Inhibitor

Description: WT-CT 206 chemical is designed in tablet form for suspension in tower sump of small systems where no automatic chemical feed system is opted. It is an effective multi functional anti-scaling and yellow metal corrosion inhibitor to control internal corrosion of the heat exchangers, pipes and the cooling towers  running with high hardness, high temperatures which causes stressed conditions.

BIOCIDES

Biocides play a very important role in the water treatment chemical program as majority of failures in cooling systems are due to biologically-induced under-deposit corrosion conditions. Biocides are chemicals that kill algae, fungus & bacteria when added to water.

Water Treatment Biocides can be classified as:

Oxidizing Biocides:

The oxidizing Biocides are effective in killing the bulk water Plank tonic bio-mass.  The aim of oxidizing biocide feed program should be to maintain total aerobic counts below 10,000 cells/ml at all times in the open cooling tower water systems. Some examples of oxidizing Biocides are Chlorine, Bromine, Ozone, Chlorine Di Oxide, Hydrogen per oxide.

Non- Oxidizing Biocides:

The non-oxidizing Biocides are effective in killing the Sessile bio-mass.  Non-Oxidizing Biocides are effective in controlling  the under deposit bacteria growth & biological slime formation. These are quite effective when the system is shock treated rapidly in under an hour time for a minimum of once per week. Some examples of non-oxidizing biocides are Gluteraldehyde, Isothiazoline, Poly Quaternary Ammonium Compound, DBNPA.

It is applied as a liquid directly into the system & no mixing is required. It is quite economical to use & can be used with continuous feed or weekly feeds.

WT-BIO 106 – Industrial Liquid Microbiocide

Description: WT-BIO 106is an aqueous based Polymeric Quaternary Ammonium Micro Biocide.

DEFOAMER CHEMICALS:

Definition: Foam is a mass of bubbles which is created when certain types of gas or air is trapped & dispersed into a liquid. A strong film of liquid than surrounds the bubbles resulting in formation of large volumes of unproductive foam. The existence of foam presents serious problems in both the operation of industrial processes and the quality of finished products. If foam is not held under control it can reduce the capacity of production equipment and increase the duration and costs of processes. Thus the dosing of controlled amount of defoamer chemicals proves very helpful.
Composition: Antifoam blends contain oils combined with small amounts of silica. They break down foam because of two of silicone’s properties: incompatibility with aqueous systems and ease of spreading. The antifoams are chemically inert compounds and do not react with the medium that is de-foamed. They are odorless, tasteless, non-volatile, and non-toxic & they do not corrode materials. Defoamers are available either as powder or as an emulsion of the pure product.

Powder Defoamers:
Anti-foam powder covers a group of products which are based on modified Poly Di-methyl Siloxane. These Defoamers provide excellent anti-foaming ability in a wide range of applications and conditions. The only disadvantage of the powdery product is that it cannot be used in watery solutions.

Emulsion Defoamers:
These are aqueous emulsions of Poly Di-methyl Siloxane fluids. They have the same properties as the powder form. The only difference is that they can also be applied in watery solutions.
